Human disease is also Attacking Animals

Human disease is also Attacking Animals

Many diseases that threaten human life such as heart disease, cancer to sexually transmitted diseases. The disease also can threaten the lives of animals, because apparently animals can also suffer from the same disease in humans.
Natterson-Horowitz, a cardiologist at UCLA in consultation with the manager of the zoo in Los Angeles to help treat the disease found in animals. The results of these consultations is surprising because there are many similarities between human and animal health.

Unlike human patients, animals can not describe the symptoms to the doctor in charge. So that the veterinarian should be a keen observer.
Natterson-Horowitz and then write down its findings into a book titled 'Zoobiquity: What Animals Can Teach Us about Health and the Science of Healing' after 6 years of observation.
Here are 7 of human diseases are also found in animals, as reported by ABCNews, on Wednesday (6/13/2012), among others:
A. Heart disease
One of the firsts Natterson-Horowitz is handling the lioness who has been diagnosed with the condition of having fluid in the sac around the heart. This condition Sangata potentially the risk of death.
"The veterinarian makes a diagnosis is through careful observation of body position, respiratory rate, diet and diagnosis of heart disease suffered by the right lion" Natterson-Horowitz said.
In his book, Natterson-Horowitz noted that animals can suffer a heart attack and was frightened to death. The main causes of death in humans, namely a sudden heart attack can also be suffered by the animals.
2. Breast CancerAccording Natterson-Horowitz, some types of breast cancer has been found in many mammals, including jaguars, tigers, sea lions, kangaroos and whales. The only group of mammals that breast cancer is rare cows and goats.
3. Skin Cancer
Dr. Curtis Eng, chief veterinarian at the Los Angeles zoo stated that one of the rhinos at the zoo were diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma, a common type of skin cancer, on the horns. Rhino is even undergo surgery to remove it and now cancer free.
4. Bone cancer (Osteosarcoma)
Osteosarcoma is a common type of bone cancer that has been found in the bones of wolves, bears, camels, polar bears, some reptiles, fish and birds.
5. Obesity and Diabetes
Animals in zoos are not only obese, but also diabetes because most of the animals at the zoo eating foods that have been genetically modified for human consumption.
"For example, bananas are fed to the monkeys at the zoo, is very different from the bananas found in the wild and this can affect the diet of animals," said Dr. Curtis Eng, chief veterinarian at the Los Angeles zoo.
The bananas are genetically designed to be more flavorful and probably has more calories than bananas that you find in the wild.
6. Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)
"The dolphins can suffer from genital warts, herpes can suffer from a baboon, and syphilis was rampant among the rabbits. Wild animals do not practice safe sex, of course, will suffer from PMS" Natterson-Horowitz said.
In fact, the cause of STDs Chlamydia epidemic has devastated Australia's koala population. Biology experts in Australia are working to find a vaccine to tackle the spread of Chlamydia in koalas.
7. Erectile Dysfunction
This problem does not only happen in humans, but horses can also suffer from erectile dysfunction. But there is no corresponding viagra for animals, so the vet take a more holistic approach.
Through his research, Natterson-Horowitz said stallion is not only suffering from erectile dysfunction, but also can suffer from sexual dysfunction if bred too young or traumatized at first sexual experience with a female horse.
"How bred foals are introduced to sexuality and how it could have repercussions later on," said Natterson-Horowitz.
